  • PRESS RELEASE

Lenovo, a worldwide leader in the PC market, today announced the appointment of a new general manager to take the reigns for the Middle East, Egypt & Pakistan (MEEP) region.

Mathias Schaedel vice president, South-East region, Lenovo EMEA, confirmed that Khaled Kamel, who has over 19 years of IT industry experience, will lead the Lenovo MEEP region into further growth and success.

"Lenovo is very pleased to welcome Khaled to the MEEP team," Schaedel said. "With extensive experience in the region's technology market and a fresh approach to the business, Khaled will drive the fulfillment of Lenovo's vision and build on the successful performance this region has witnessed over the past few years. The coming year will be an exciting one for Lenovo, taking us into the consumer segment, with a unique product offering with real differentiators and exciting features for PC users in the region. This is a demanding, highly sophisticated consumer market, and Khaled will play a key role in driving its growth in 2008 and the years to come."

Khaled Kamel joins Lenovo with 19 years of IT industry knowledge, beginning with experience in the channel, working with major distributors and service partners in the region. Khaled then moved to a leading role for one of the industry's leading IT vendors, covering a number of countries in the region and with strong focus on Saudi Arabia. Khaled was then based in Saudi Arabia for two years. As general manager for Lenovo MEEP, Khaled will be responsible for building the company's growth plans across the region, for the enterprise, SMB and consumer market segments.

"This is a very exciting time to be joining Lenovo, and to be moving into the PC industry," Kamel said. "IDC predictions state that growth of the Gulf PC market will continue to accelerate at an average rate of over 16% between now and 2011. Lenovo has, and will continue, to drive this growth through ongoing expansion of the channel, aggressive marketing campaigns, and of course, unique PC technology across the various market segments."

Lenovo MEEP is headquartered in Dubai Internet City, covering the GCC countries, Levant, Egypt and Pakistan. The vendor has a channel network of 35 partners around the region. In January 2008, the Lenovo Group reported strong financial results for its third fiscal quarter of 2007/08, which ended December 31, 2007. Global sales for the quarter jumped 15% year on year, to $4.6bn, driven by double-digit growth in Lenovo PC unit shipments and sales across all of the Company's operating geographies. In the Europe, Middle East and Africa region (EMEA), shipments jumped a robust 24% in the third fiscal quarter. For the same period, EMEA sales totaled $1.1bn or some 24% of total sales.
