United Arab Emirates: Thursday, April 03 - 2008 at 07:47
Plastic bags in UAE supermarkets may soon be a thing of the past, reported Khaleej Times. Some of the country's leading supermarket chains are considering an alternative to plastic bags, following a decision by the Sharjah Cooperative to use biodegradable plastic bags. The cooperative signed an agreement with the Fujairah Plastic Factory under which the stores will use plastic bags which take a maximum of four to nine months to degrade unlike the normal plastic bags which remain in earth for thousands of years.
