Kuwait to build 3 new power stations

Kuwait plans to issue construction tenders to build three new power stations with a combined capacity of 6,700 megawatts and 225 million imperial gallons (1 billion liters) of water, reported Bloomerg. Khalid al-Wasmi, Assistant Undersecretary for Coordination and Follow-Up at the Ministry of Electricity and Water, said the tender for the first of the three new power plants, which will each be able to use natural gas or oil, will be issued in the next few weeks. The new station will be built in Subbiya, northern Kuwait, with a capacity of 2,000 megawatts. The second, to be issued in the last quarter of the year, is for the Zour North power station. The third power station will also be built in Subbiya and will be tendered at the end of 2009.
