The Sony Science Shows targeted at Grade 4 students from Dubai schools will be held on 15th, 16th and 17th of April 2008 at the Knowledge Village Auditorium.
Participation in the show is by invitation and schools will be served on first come first basis.
Osamu Miura, Managing Director, Sony Gulf FZE, said,
"The Sony Science Show is one of our initiatives to generate a level of interest among children in learning science. We believe that if one can teach a child to learn by creating a sense of curiosity, he will remember it for a long time. The feedback from the schools surpassed our expectations and we were very motivated to bring the show back for the third consecutive year".
Based on the tremendous response to the 2006 and 2007 shows, this year's show is expected to attract over 3000 students from schools across Dubai.
The one-hour interactive show is hosted by Japanese scientific entertainer, Soichi Nishimura, who travels around the world to entertain and teach children more about the magical world of science.
The show converts classroom theories into practical experiments, on topics such as conduction, air pressure, and flight dynamics.
"We believe that the formative years of a child are very important for his or her overall development. Learning through entertainment and engaging nine year olds in a creative and interactive manner to teach them science is certainly commendable" said Fatma Al Marri, CEO of the Dubai School Agency.
The Sony Science Show is part of Sony's Global Community initiatives directed at children's education, such as The Sony ExploraScience Museum, The Sony Eco Plaza, The Sony Foundation for Education in Japan and The Sony Wonder Technology Lab in New York.
In the Middle East, this is extended through the Sony Creative Science Awards in Saudi Arabia and the Sony Science Shows in the UAE.
Said Poonam Heryani, Supervisor for Elementary School, The Indian High School "It is wonderful that Sony Gulf is bringing the Science Show back to Dubai this year too. I have been taking my students to the show since the last two years. The show has been of a tremendous help in making many of the concepts like conduction, static electricity, air pressure etc comprehendible. Along with the students, the show has also helped the teachers get new ideas to make learning science fun for the students".
At this stage, many schools have already confirmed their participation.
Knowledge and Human Development Authority and the Sony Science Show Organizing Committee are continuing to approach the school network in Dubai with participation details.
