Hilton Hotels across Middle East & Africa participated in global Earth Hour on March 29th including Cairo, Alexandria, Sharm El Sheikh & Hurghada.
His Excellency Dr. Maged George, the Egyptian Minister of State for Environmental Affairs commented, "I am really happy to see Ramses Hilton participating in this global initiative, as part of its community service programmes towards the environment. Of course, it should not impact nor disrupt the normal daily operation of the hotel, or affect guest comfort and safety."

Leonardo Romeo from the New York University and a guest at the Cairo Conrad Hotel during the initiative said, "This initiative is wonderful and helps on creating international awareness on global warming; the initiative created a romantic atmosphere for us as guests while we were having our candle lit dinner!"

The Nile Hilton Hotel, members of the executive team and the hotel's employee's showed their full support for this noble cause and created positive and successful results for this campaign. The Earth Hour results showed that the Nile Hilton saved 5943 kwh of electric consumption which is equivalent to 2556 kg of carbon dioxide (CO2), this saving is equivalent to:
- Providing heat to a family for 135 days
- Providing light for a small families apartment for 1000 days
- Making 297000 cups of tea
- The weights of the saved kg's from CO2 is equivalent to the weight of an Asian elephant
-
Simon Hasdell Vice President of Operations, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and North Africa stated, "We are more than pleased with the results that we have accomplished during Earth Hour. And we are confident that our guests and the community that we work in are fully aware of the challenges of this campaign, and the main aim was not just to save electrical consumption but rather to create awareness for people to be more responsible in consuming energy over the year and not just for one hour. What is more important is to further continue this initiative and to maintain the awareness."

The commitment and dedication that was shown from the Hilton & Conrad Family in Egypt towards the Earth Hour is being appreciated and admired by many, where it proves the Brand's social responsibility in Egypt while creating a public opinion towards the environment and its problems. The response from the hotel team members and guests was so enthusiastic that some properties including Ramses Hilton in Cairo and Hilton Dahab Resort are taking this one step further, by implementing a monthly Earth Hour initiative starting from April 08.

Department heads ensured that non-essential lights, air-conditioning and computers were switched off in the restaurants, kitchens, room corridors, meeting rooms, public areas, service and administrative buildings.

Hilton restaurants demonstrated true Earth Hour spirit by serving dinners in a romantic candlelit setting as an apt reminder to customers about the initiative. The event was promoted to hotel guests through lobby displays, in-room and check-in communication.
