United Arab Emirates: Sunday, April 06 - 2008 at 08:36
A new sugar refinery is to be built at the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi, which will be able to process 600,000 tonnes a year, rising within five years to 850,000 tonnes. The UAE is already the world’s sixth largest producer of sugar and it wants to increase capacity to stave off price fluctuations. According to Gulf News, prices are expected to rise between 27% and 48% by 2011.
