Jumeirah International takes over management of top London Hotels

Prestigious hotel group, Jumeirah International, has confirmed that it will be taking over the management of two of London's most prestigious hotels - The Carlton Tower, and The Lowndes, both situated in the heart of Knightsbridge - from Hyatt International.

Jumeirah International is well-known for its high profile properties in Dubai and its commitment to quality and service. Its Dubai properties include The Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Emirates Towers and Burj Al Arab, all of which have grown to be global icons, reflecting the highest possible standards of service and hospitality. Jumeirah International's properties are regarded as among the most luxurious and innovative in the world, and have won numerous travel awards. The addition of these London hotels represents Jumeirah International's first move outside Dubai.

The new General Manager of The Carlton Tower, which includes Monte's private club where Jamie Oliver is the consultant chef, will be Andrew Abram, who has worked with Jumeirah International for four years. An extensive refurbishment programme for The Carlton Tower has been committed and has commenced with the refurbishment of the Chinoiserie Lobby Lounge, which will be completed by December 2001.

Commenting on the new management, Mr Gerald Lawless, Managing Director of Jumeirah International said: " We are delighted to be entrusted with the running of The Carlton Tower and The Lowndes, both world class hotels, which will be a welcome addition to our current portfolio. The Jumeirah International Group was established in 2000 to encompass five world-class hotels, the Middle East's first fully themed water park, Wild Wadi and The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management. The company's latest announcement is the unique resort development Madinat Jumeirah, which was announced during the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai in May 2001. The first phase is scheduled to open mid 2003.

The World Trade Centre Hotel, Dubai, became the newest addition to the Group on 20th December 2000. The 333-room hotel is strategically located right next to the Dubai World Trade Centre and fulfils a vital role for the many trade and consumer shows staged in Dubai each year.

The 26-story high Jumeirah Beach Hotel comprises 600 sea-facing rooms and suites and opened in December of 1997. Its 19-villa resort complex Beit Al Bahar opened in 1999. The Jumeirah Beach Hotel vas voted No. 1 Hotel in the World by Conde Nast Traveller Magazine in 1999 and 2000.

The 202 all-suite hotel Burj Al Arab, the tallest hotel in the world, opened in December 1999. This billowing sail-shaped structure soars 321 metres above the Arabian Gulf and is situated on a man-made island some 280 metres offshore.

The award-winning 400-room Emirates Towers Hotel opened in April 2000. The adjoining 350-metre high office tower and Emirates Towers Shopping Boulevard make this the region's premier business address.

The luxury Jumeirah Beach Club was added to the Group's portfolio in August last year and offers a highly sophisticated leisure and recreation experience through its 50 suites in addition to is very popular restaurants and sporting facilities.

The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management in academic association with École hôteliére de Lausanne, one of the most prestigious hotel schools in the world, offers a four-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree programme in International Hospitality Management and an extensive Professional Development Programme for industry professionals.
