HSBC appoints Mukhtar Hussain as Global CEO of HSBC Amanah and CEO Global Banking and Markets, MENA

HSBC announced it has appointed Mukhtar Hussain Global CEO of HSBC Amanah and CEO Global Banking and Markets, Middle East and North Africa, effective 5 May, 2008.

Michael Geoghegan, HSBC Group Chief Executive Officer, said, "This senior appointment reflects the significant strategic importance we attach to both our global Amanah franchise and our regional Global Banking and Markets platform."

The Group in the Middle East is represented by a number of successful franchises most notably HSBC Bank Middle East, Saudi British Bank (SABB), HSBC Bank Egypt, all of whom maintain market leading positions.

Stuart Gulliver, Chief Executive of Global Banking and Markets, added, "Mukhtar has significant experience both within the Group and in the region having spent 13 years previously in building a market leading Global Banking business. He will lead the continued build out of our Global Banking and Markets franchise in these critical markets."

Hussain responsibilities within Global Banking and Markets will encompass regional Principal Investments, Private Banking and Asset Management.

Hussain joined HSBC in 1982 and has held a number of senior management positions, most recently as Global Head of Principal Investments within Global Banking and Markets.
