- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, April 06 - 2008 at 12:24
- PRESS RELEASE
To meet the increasing demand for experienced arbitrators in the UAE and region, the Dubai International Arbitration Centre is offering a series of training courses focusing on the latest developments in the field of international commercial arbitration.
Known for being the first centre in Dubai to offer commercial arbitration facilities and services, the DIAC organises these strategic training courses in cooperation with King's College London and the Lebanese University to provide a wide range of information in both Arabic and English.
The courses are aimed at arbitrators who would like to improve their skills, as well as professionals from key sectors, such as construction, oil and banking, who would like to become arbitrators.
According to Dr Hussam Talhuni, Director of the DIAC, each of these three courses was designed to meet the demands of companies in the region and to cater to the growth of Dubai as a centre for commerce and trade.
"Qualified arbitrators are the most important element in providing suitable dispute resolution services in any country. With the increasing amount of business in Dubai, both locally and internationally, arbitration is a key factor which contributes to the attraction of investment to any country, and to the development of commercial businesses on the international level," Dr Talhuni said.
The arbitration centre, which held its first round of courses in 2006, has become a source of arbitration training for the Arab world, offering teaching standard of training at the international level.
"From the start, we aimed to build and establish a better environment that is suitable for commercial arbitration in the region," Dr Talhuni explained.
The English course, Stage II in Commercial Arbitration Training, has been designed by international arbitration experts from King's College and Dubai International Arbitration Centre.
The course will consist of lectures and interactive workshops, administered by King's College London. Speakers will highlight various cases and circumstances, which may arise in arbitrations pertaining to infrastructure projects, including document management and the use of expert evidence.
All participants will receive course materials including speakers' papers and presentations, in addition to a handbook on International Arbitration.
The aim of these courses is to expand the participants' knowledge in the field of commercial arbitration and further contribute towards development in becoming a prospective arbitrator or expert witness.
In addition, participants also have the opportunity to meet and interact with professionals from various fields and jurisdictions.
