- United Arab Emirates: Monday, April 07 - 2008 at 12:32
- PRESS RELEASE
Within the framework of cooperation between the UAE federal government and local departments, the Sharjah Economic Development Department recently held a meeting with a team from the Prime Minister's Office in Dubai.
The meeting aims to study the UAE's competitiveness strategy in order to improve the country's competitiveness across all economic sectors.
The members of the delegation have briefed their missions, and the objectives of the project which will be launched soon.
One of the most important objectives of the council is to study the competitiveness of the country as a favorable destination for regional and international business and to review the procedures required for investors to do business here, with the aim of creating an enabling business environment.
The council discussed issues relating to commercial arbitration and dispute settlement, among others.
The council is working on designing and implementing a proposed agenda for modernization and reform in policies and procedures, and the adoption of methodologies and global best practices for doing business in the country, and will follow up the implementation of these policies with the economic departments concerned.
The council will play a significant role, as it will promote the UAE's investor-friendly climate, which is perhaps not included in the international reports in a transparent manner, and will boost investment and trade in the region, as these are critical building blocks in the UAE's drive for economic expansion and growth.
The UAE Government recently announced its intention to establish the Emirates National Competitiveness Council, which will be a Public-Private sector initiative with government representation on both, the local and federal levels.
The new Council will develop and recommend policies to boost the UAE's competitiveness in all social and economic areas.
