Municipalities & Agriculture Affairs Department discusses the mechanism of smoking ban decision execution in Sharjah

Municipalities & Agriculture Affairs Department held yesterday its 1st meeting in the main office of Sharjah Municipal council.
His Excellency Al Owais started the meeting with a speech thanking H. H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi member of supreme council ruler of Sharjah, and expressing his gratitude to the great leaders for entrusting the honorable responsibility of chairing MAAD.
The meeting discussed many points and stressed on the mechanism of executing smoking ban decision in closed public places in Sharjah, issued by the executive council in its last meeting on Tuesday 1st of April 2008.
His Excellency Al Owais requested the municipal councils chairmen to propose suggestions regarding effective execution for the decision, and requested to include awareness campaigns to inform people about the decision and encourage their cooperation.
He also requested to impose fines on violators. Later meetings will discuss the proposed suggestions to implement the suitable ones.
As part of the tasks of MAAD, the meeting also discussed municipal councils budget for the year 2008, to acknowledge that MAAD will supervise municipal councils budgets and closing accounts as well as their needs for employees.
The 3rd point discussed was the municipalities independency in managerial & financial levels in order to provide the best services to public and to avoid responsibilities confusion between Sharjah municipalities.
