According to the contract, which is worth approximately Dhs200m, CHEC will commence with their operations for the Umm Al-Quwain-based project in the first week of April, delivering vital civil engineering and infrastructure works, including the reclamation of the first island in the development and the construction of a bridge connecting the island with the mainland. The work is expected to take 14 months.

Speaking of the appointment, White Bay Project Manager Costas Alexandrou said,

"We are delighted to have CHEC working with us on this prestigious development. They have an excellent track record and we are confident that their industry standing and expertise will be invaluable in bringing this project to a successful conclusion". The White Bay project is on-track," added Alexandrou, "and we are confident that our appointment of such a highly-respected company to deliver such vital works, and several major elements of the infrastructure, will ensure the project's continued progress and success".

CHEC is the major international operating division of CCCC Group, the result of a merger in December 2005 between China Harbour Engineering Company Group and China Road and Bridge Corporation.

The CCCC Group is ranked 14th out of the 225 top international contractors according to Engineering News Recording (ENR), and has operations in more than 20 countries across the globe covering marine engineering, dredging and reclamation, roads and bridges, port machinery, and survey and design.

White Bay is being developed by Al Murjan Real Estate.

The master-planned, resort-style community comprises two man-made islands located on the placid shores of Umm Al-Quwain.

The development's 8,000 units are spread over a land area of 19 million sq.ft and facilities include a 190 berth marina, canal and health centre.
