- PRESS RELEASE
Qatargas has celebrated the first arrival of the LNG vessel "Duhail" in Cartagena, Spain with a cargo for delivery to Gas Natural SDG.
Last week Qatargas achieved another milestone with the transit of the "Duhail" through the Suez Canal, which marked the first time a vessel of this type and size crossed the Suez Canal.
The Q-Flex, a membrane type vessel, represents a new generation of LNG ships and are propelled by two slow speed diesel engines, making them more efficient than traditional steam turbines.
Equipped with an on-board reliquefaction system to handle the boil-off gas, these vessels are able to deliver 100% of the cargo to the customers.
This achievement is another significant milestone for Qatargas, which has already established a good track record of reliably delivering energy to the world, further ensuring that Qatargas can be called on to contribute to the need for clean and environmentally friendly energy supplies.
Gas Natural was Qatargas' first long-term European customer and now is its first European customer to receive a Q-Flex cargo.
Qatargas is currently undergoing major expansions, with new projects under construction and nearing completion. Current LNG production in Qatargas is at 10 million tonnes per annum. By the end of this decade, Qatargas will be producing 42 million tonnes per annum of LNG.
