Camel sells for $2.72m

The crown prince of the UAE of Dubai has paid a record price $2.72m for a camel, reported AFP. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashed al-Maktoum purchased the female - which are the fastest racing camels - at a nine-day camel beauty pageant that is taking place in Abu Dhabi. More than 10,000 camels from across the Gulf are competing for prize money totalling around $9.5m.
