Koran sells for record $4.92m

An anonymous investor paid a record 2.5 million pounds ($4.92m) for a 7th-century leaf from a Koran at a Christie's auciton of Islamic art yesterday in London, reported Bloomberg. Christie's said the 36-centimeter vellum leaf was one of the earliest fragments of the Koran produced. The price paid by the collector, more than 20 times the lower estimate, was the highest for an Islamic manuscript at auction.
