"This excellent performance is mainly due to the success of the region's favourite luxury sedan, the S-Class, the excellent reception of the C-Class and continuously good results for the E-Class combined with an unprecedented push on the M-Class luxury SUV," said Frank Bernthaler, Director, Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz Cars, Middle East and Levant.

Sales for March at 1,761 helped Mercedes-Benz distributors across the region deliver 470 more vehicles to satisfied customers across the Middle East and Levant in the first three months of 2008.

The UAE remains the leading market for passenger cars sales with Saudi Arabia a close second.
"We are well on our way to setting another sales record in 2008 and with exciting new models entering the showrooms in the next six months as well as the launch of the first Mercedes-Benz compact SUV in the fourth quarter we are confident we will end the year considerably ahead of our closest German rivals," added Bernthaler.
