Mideast donations to UK push 'extremist' education
Saudi Arabia: Sunday, April 13 - 2008 at 09:13
A controversial new report claims that Saudi Arabian and Muslim organisations have donated £233.5m since 1995 to British universities to spread 'extremist ideas'. The report, cited in UK paper the Telegraph, claims eight universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, have accepted donations. While the donors say the money has been used to promote understanding between the West and Islamic countries, the report from the Centre for Intelligence and Securities Study at Brunel University says it has been used to push 'one sided views' that amount to 'anti-Western propaganda'. Universities and the government denied the charges.
