Rashed Al Ansari, CEO of Dubai Industrial City, a member of Tatweer, said:
"International recognition and accreditation from a prestigious organisation such as City & Guilds is essential for DIA to further its objective of becoming the leading certification authority to grant internationally certified industrial training programmes in the UAE. Such recognition will strengthen our resolve to continue helping and training industrial professionals, and create a future workforce armed with sufficient expertise and knowledge."
Dubai Industrial Academy's partner, The UK-based Technical Training Group (TTE), has been working with City & Guilds to develop standards for the industrial sector. The process includes the scrutiny of its short course programmes by City & Guilds through an approval mechanism evaluating its content, delivery and assessment, and ensuring that successful candidates receive the City & Guild certification.
Al Ansari added: "Acting as an approved satellite company of TTE, DIA is now authorised to deliver City & Guilds approved short courses. Further work is in progress, in collaboration with City & Guilds, to ensure DIA receives its own 'centre status', by the end of next year."
He further pointed out that DIA was already engaged in conversations with leading industrial employers from the UAE to ensure it works with the most appropriate awarding bodies and offers a credible set of programme accreditation on courses that are of relevance to the industrial needs of the country.
Established in 1878, City & Guilds offers learners over 500 qualifications in 28 industry areas and operates in around 100 countries, through 8,500 centres worldwide.
The Dubai Industrial Academy, the first of its kind in the UAE, is a dedicated vocational training centre set up by Dubai Industrial City, with a focus on providing a wide range of training solutions to serve the growing needs of the industrial sector in the UAE and the region covering eight industrial sectors of Quality, Health, Safety and the Environment (QHSE), Mechanical engineering, Electrical and power engineering, Instrumentation, Chemical process and laboratory operations, Oil and gas, Construction, as well as Technical and supervisory development
