Dubai World and PCFC celebrate achievements that contributed to their business excellence last year

DP World UAE is the first Port in the World to be awarded this prestigious award from the European Foundation for Quality Management - a non-profit organization based in Brussels.

This follows DP World- UAE's achievement in receiving the ISO 28000 Supply Chain Security Certification.

Also present on the occasion was Ms. Ibiyemi Makinde the Senior Manager for EFQM Membership and Dr. Laura Salasco the Director for Awards and Partnerships.

Mr. Farid Mohammed Ahmed, Secretary General, Dubai World, Mr. AbdulQader Obeid Ali, Director, Group Internal Audit and Business Excellence Center, Anand Nicodemus, Head of Business Excellence, as well as several other senior officials of the Group and members of the Executive Management of Dubai World and PCFC Worldwide attended the ceremony.

Mr. Farid Mohammed Ahmed, Secretary General to the Board of Dubai World, stressed that Business Excellence in a workplace characterised by innovation and dynamism is crucial for overall quality management, giving corporations their competitive edge, mitigating risk from rapid growth, and enhancing their performance in the future.

Speaking on the occasion of the Business Excellence Ceremony 2008 held by Dubai World and PCFC, Mr. Farid Ahmed said: "Dubai World has been playing an active role in supporting the themes arising out of the Dubai Strategy 2015, which among other things calls for Public Sector Excellence".

Mr. Farid Mohammed Ahmed noted "We are proud of the achievements that have been realized at this level, especially the EFQM recognition and its comprehensive and unprejudiced evaluation of the performance of some of our companies. This enables us to gauge the extent of progress made by the group's entities in several fields, such as Leadership, Policy and Strategy, Processes, Relationship with Suppliers, and Human Resources Management," he added.

Abdulqader Obeid Ali said that recognising excellence is one of the most important incentives that encourage innovation and continual improvement. "Focusing on Business excellence and gauging the levels of performance is crucial to Continual Improvement, and we have put in place mechanisms to ensure that this happens".

Awards and Certificates for excellence were presented in various categories, such Best Teams for Cost Saving, Implementing Standards and Systems, Cost Optimization, and Outstanding Implementation of a variety of Good practices.

The Business Excellence Ceremony of the Group awards the "best of the best" teams, in their endeavor to generate synergy from people working together.
