- PRESS RELEASE
The first edition of the Gulf Film Festival got off to a colorful start in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.
"Four Girls" by acclaimed director Hussain Abbas Al Hulaibi is in running for the coveted prize at the Festivals feature film competition. The film tells the story of four struggling young women from different cultural backgrounds who unite to solve their financial crisis. The movie addresses the subject of women's emancipation, challenging prejudices and customs in a male-dominated society.
For five days, Dubai cinephiles will have the best of the regional cinema at their fingertips, from short films to documentaries to features from every corner of the GCC and beyond. International shorts will run side by side with debut films from students from the GCC and Iraq.
The festival will feature a panel discussion on the future of digital filmmaking in the region on the 16 of April, offering a behind-the-scenes view of the film trade. Public screenings start from tomorrow, with a focus on competition films by students and competition shorts and documentaries. All screenings are free to the public.
The inaugural edition of Gulf Film Festival is scheduled to take place between April 13 to 18 at the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Center at Mall of Emirates.
