3rd Annual World Takaful Conference Global leaders capture growth opportunities in Takaful segments

The proceedings for the second day started with a focus on the creation of an enabling regulatory framework for the sustainable success of the Takaful industry.

James Smith, Executive Director -Global Financial Services, Ernst & Young Hong Kong, led a presentation on regulation of Takaful in Asia and Richard Grainger Senior Manager-Financial Services Ernst & Young (London) focused on the regulation of Takaful in the UK market.

The interactive debate on Capturing Growth Opportunities in Key Takaful Product Segments: Assessing the Future Outlook for Life, Pension & Health Products, was a major highlight on the second day. Speakers during the sessions were David Youssef, Managing Director, Goodhealth Worldwide (Middle East) LLC; Ayman Alajmi, General Manager, Arabian Region, AIG Takaful ENAYA B.S.C. (c) and Bassel Hanbali an industry professional.

Dato' Mohamed Hassan Kamil, Group Managing Director Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Berhad introduced the next session that focused on the Key Business Drivers and Operational Issues for Takaful Operators. Ayman Alajmi, General Manager Arabian Region, AIG Takaful ENAYA B.S.C. (c) did a presentation on Overcoming Obstacles to Realize the Potentials while Mohammed Munshif Hussain, Consultant - HR and Strategic Planning, Amăna Takaful PLC (Sri Lanka) did a presentation on Human Resources - The Brand Ambassador in Takaful. Susan Dingwall, Partner, Norton Rose LLP covered insurance and reinsurance dispute resolution.

Carlos Wong-Fupuy Managing Senior Financial Analyst of A.M. Best also did a presentation on International Financial Principles & Insights into the Rating Process for Takaful Operators.

Rahman Tolefat, Head of Licensing & Policy, Central Bank of Bahrain, did a presentation on the investment portfolio composition for Takaful companies: Actual vs. Desired during the session on Asset Management for Takaful: Opportunities for Collaboration. Dr. Omar Clark Fisher, Managing Director of Takaful Business Development at t'azur also spoke on Asset Management: What Takaful Companies are doing now and challenges for future. Douglas Clark Johnson, CEO & Chief Investment Officer, Calyx Financial LLC, also spoke during this session.

The pinnacle of the event was the WTC 2008 Power Table on the Internationalisation of the Takaful Industry: Opportunities & Challenges. Najeeb Rana Head of Islamic Financial Services (IFSG) Ernst & Young Dubai led the discussion. Panellists included Yassir Albaharna, CEO of ARIG; Mohamed El-Dishish, CFO, Compliance & Anti Money Laundering Reporting Officer of Takaful Re Limited; Oussama Kaissi, General Manager ADNTC; and Dawood Yousef Taylor, General Manager of Takaful Ta'awuni Division, Bank Al Jazira.
