The annual event, a platform for companies to showcase their employment opportunities for UAE nationals, is held until April 17 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
GE's growth strategy for the region is powered by concerted localization initiatives as part of the company's operational ethos of working hand-in-hand with local governments to attain socio-economic development. With a current workforce of more than 1,000 employees, GE has a strong presence in the GCC dating from 1930 and has an extensive presence in such diversified sectors as power, health, aviation, water and industrial sectors. The company has played an integral role in developing the region through involvement in various strategic projects for the development of infrastructure, and the provision of energy and industrial needs.
'GE is regarded as an Employer of Choice globally and offers a strong platform for the personal and professional growth of its employees. As one of the largest companies in the world, GE is committed to contributing to the socio-economic fabric of all the countries it operates in by creating job opportunities and offering a promising career-growth environment. GE's participation in this year's event highlights the importance of the UAE market to our operations. With Dubai as our regional headquarters, we are committed to drawing on local talent and nurture promising careers,' said Nabil Habayeb, President and CEO of GE in the Middle East & Africa.
Annually, GE spends some $1bn (Dhs3.67bn) on training and education programs for its employees worldwide. The company also has a dedicated campus, Crotonville in the U.S., where thousands of GE employees from entry level to senior management journey to enrich and boost their careers and professional experiences. In 2007, GE was been ranked in the pole position by Fortune magazine in a global ranking on the top 10 companies for leaders.
GE also concurrently runs Corporate Entry-Level Leadership Programs, which combine responsible and important job assignments, along with formal classroom studies. The rotational assignments cut across different aspects of a GE business including Finance, HR, and Engineering. Those who enter the programs are enriched with a broad and valuable experience in a relatively short amount of time.
'GE is a company that fosters its employees from the day they join us. We have extensive training and leadership programs that apply across a range of levels. We extend the same human resources development model in the region too. This is essential to our growth in a sustainable manner as a multinational organization,' added Jeffrey Wooten, GE Corporate, Middle East & Africa.
Careers UAE 2008 is organised by the Dubai World Trade Centre in conjunction with TANMIA, Emirates National Development Programme (ENDP), Higher Colleges of Technology, Zayed University and UAE University. The event enables talented UAE nationals in all fields to meet directly with recruiters and hiring managers from top employers. This is the second year GE has participated in the event.
