Kuwait issues harsh driving measures

Kuwait: Thursday, April 17 - 2008 at 08:25

Harsh new measures against traffic offenders in Kuwait are meant to address deteriorating traffic manners as a whole and not just targeting expatriates, a ministry official told Gulf News. A news report on Tuesday said the government has ordered the deportation of expats who jump a red light and have a previous conviction for a traffic offence. Thabet Al Muhanaa, the Ministry of Interior's Assistant Under Secretary for traffic, said yesterday the new law does not mean that every expat who commits a traffic offence will be deported, but those who 'unashamedly and repeatedly risk the lives of others' will be asked to leave the country. She added that locals also face tough penalties for traffic offences.
