UAE-based charity Dubai Cares, which raised Dh3.4bn ($926.4m) last year in an eight-week fundraising drive, has announced the launch of a project to fund education in 12 of the world's poorest countries. The twelve countries chosen to receive donations in phase one are Bangladesh, Bosnia, Chad, Comoros Islands, Djibouti, Maldives, Mauritania, Niger, Pakistan, occupied Palestinian territories, Sudan and Yemen, with money also going to Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan. The funds will be spent to build new schools, refurbish existing facilities and provide medical services and drinking water as part of the charity's goal of educating one million children.
