The CrossFire debate tournament is an annual event in which several of the region's top tertiary institutions participate, and whose purpose is to develop the debating skills of the UAE's student fraternity.

This year's debate topic was "Is democracy an ideal solution?" and debate teams were given 4 minutes each in which to state their case, and another 4 in which to answer questions posed by opposing teams, participants or judges.

The teams were then graded by the panel of judges, who based their judgments of the teams on the presentation of their arguments, their ability to pose relevant questions and the agility and clarity with which they responded to questions asked of them.

Commenting on SNASCO's involvement in the event, the firm's Deputy Chairman, Mr. Talal Al Sorayai, said, "We at SNASCO are avid supporters of academia, and consider it our responsibility to enrich and develop our youth in every way possible. Today's youth are tomorrow's leaders, and SNASCO is committed to supporting programs that help them to develop the skills and talents that will ensure their success in their future careers".

Dr. Sudhakar Kota, Assistant Professor at Skyline College and Chairman of the CROSSFIRE- 2008 Organizing Committee, expressed appreciation on behalf of the organizing committee for SNASCO's participation in the event, saying, "It gives us great pleasure to welcome SNASCO's management to our panel of judges, and we thank them sincerely for taking the time to participate.

SNASCO is a strong supporter of the academic community and development programs that foster and encourage leadership traits in our students, and it is through the examples they set that our youth learn the importance and value of true leadership".

"Skyline College envisages total personality development and instils leadership qualities among the student fraternity through academic and non academic activities in UAE. Skyline College strives to develop strong relationship with business organizations like SNASCO's that are keen to encourage youth", Kota said.

"There is more to community development than simply erecting the physical structures in which people live and conduct their business," said Al Sorayai. "We believe that the buildings and structures are of no great value if the communities themselves - the people - are not equipped with the human resources to develop and expand the activities that take place inside their walls. This is why SNASCO is keen to get involved in activities such as the CrossFire debate tournament and other academic programs," he added.
