IKEA UAE has donated 500 of its trademark brown paper bags to the school for the pupils to decorate with environmental themes.

The decorated bags will be returned to the store to pack customer purchases on Earth Day in the hope the artworks will inspire increased environmental awareness and appreciation.

Mile Franicevic, General Manager, IKEA UAE stated:

"We are delighted to support the girls in educating our community about the importance of protecting the environment. It is particularly appropriate at this time when the UAE Environmental Ministry has declared its plan to make paper bag use compulsory".

The Earth Day Groceries Project was initiated in the UAE by third grade teacher, Ms. Mona Abinader, who presented the project to the elementary and middle school section of AAG.

The project, which has existed for 15 years, is a global educational program that reaches out to thousands of schools worldwide through the internet. It is the first time the UAE has participated.
