Half of ME members in WTTC are from Dubai

Mr. Khalid A. Bin Sulayem, Director General Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) on the eve of Global Travel and Tourism Summit said from amongst the Middle East members of WTTC (World Travel and Tourism Council) event that constitute 10% of the total, half were from Dubai alone reflecting strong commitment of this emirate to the tourism industry.

The Global Travel and Tourism Summit begins in Dubai from Sunday, April 20, 2008 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai at Madinat Jumeirah and over 1000 representatives and decision makers within the tourism industry from all over the globe would attend the show.

The first day of the summit is reserved exclusively for the internal meeting of the Board of World Travel and Tourism Council whereas the general sessions would commence from Monday.

The Global Travel and Tourism Summit would be attended by Heads of Governments and Ministers of Tourism from all across the globe, making this event more significant and important.

The conference is expected to set the pace for the future development of the tourism industry and pave the way for mutual cooperation and assistance to promote the travel and tourism industry as a whole.

As far as theme, 'Sustainable tourism' of the conference is concerned, it reflects the interest and importance of this subject as the commitment to sustainable tourism is a commitment to the society.

Mr. Bin Sulayem thanked the main sponsors of the event which are Emirates Group, Nakheel and Jumeirah.
