Etisalat Academy concludes Broadcast and Digital Content Conference in Dubai

International telecommunication industry experts and specialists who attended the Broadcast and Digital Content Conference have concluded their discussions on the best way to expand the use of broadband applications and high-speed Internet in the Middle East.

The Broadcast and Digital Content Conference was organized by the Etisalat Academy in Dubai last week, with participation of distinguished international ICT companies such as Ericsson, Huawei, Nortel, Zhone Technologies, Juniper, Alcatel - Lucent, ZTE and Etisalat.

The conference was also attended by a number of global consulting firms like IDC and Kineto.

Dr. Doaa Fares, Etisalat Academy General Manager, 'This conference brought together the leaders in services, technology and content to discuss the range of developments critical to delivering various forms of content across multiple devices. During the conference delegates had the opportunity to examine leading-edge broadband technology developments, their deployments, challenges and services'.

The conference was attended by a number of senior executives from Etisalat and regional telecommunication providers from Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Korea, Switzerland, China, participants also included delegates from UAE armed forces, Royal Jet, Dubai Police and private sector companies.

'Telecommunication networks operators have been seeking new and alternative revenue streams to their traditional business. Many are looking to 'quad play' to reduce customer churn and provide the services that customers need via converged IP networks,' He added.

The conference lasted for three days and covered important topics such as next generation networks (NGN) and their applications (that are used by providers and customers), and the rapid development in broadband and wire line / wireless networks.

The participants insisted on the need of standards that help manufacturers and service providers in providing services at lower distinct costs to the subscribers.

Participants also discussed the future vision of broadband networks and ultimate marketing plans to promote its services, performance characters, quality indicators, management variables and expected competitiveness according to technical and mechanical features applied by major industry players.

The Academy held a workshop on the third day for system engineers helping them to converge on latest technology and state art systems launched by international service providers during 2008.

The workshop also discussed expected amendments to these technologies during 2009.
