FTO Holdings host Multi-Crew Pilot licence (MPL) Forum

The Forum is co-sponsored by Royal Jordanian, Gulf Air Training, Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), the Arab Civil Aviation Commission (ACAC), the Arab Air Carriers Organization (AACO), Alsim, Thales, Mechtronix, CAE, JATS, Atlantic Flight Training (AFT) an FTO Holdings' company, Royal Jordanian Air Academy, MidEast Aviation Academy, Aviation Business Magazine, Air Cargo, CAT Magazine and Halldale Media Group.

MPL is an up-to-date training program, established by ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) in November 2006, designed to give trainee pilots the aeronautical knowledge found in the existing programs with added emphasis on Airline related modules: Multi-Crew Cooperation, Cockpit Resource Management, Threat and Error Management...etc.

MPL is a competency based-approach training scheme, seen as a way to improve pilot training by introducing high technology training devices, at each of the MPL's 4 phases: Core Flying Skills, Basic, Intermediate and Advanced.

The objective of such a program is to provide the airline industry with highly qualified, better trained pilots who are aligned with the requirements of a First Officer's position, with the expectation of being fully supportive to his Captain inside the cockpit.

The Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) is in the process of certifying this program through its MPL committee, in collaboration with the local aviation industry.

By adopting this new training scheme, the Jordanian Civil Aviation Authorities prove their progressive and innovative approach and position in the Middle East.

IATA who also supports MPL through the ITQI (IATA's Training and Qualification Initiative) helped the organization of the MPL forum by inviting world experts to participate and present their MPL perspectives.

FTO Holdings, a Flight Training Organizations' group (parent company of Ayla Aviation Academy, Jordan and Atlantic Flight Training, UK), who is currently working on implementing MPL in its Jordanian base: Ayla Aviation Academy, is taking the opportunity of this event to improve its vision of the concept in order to continue preparing for the launch of the most appropriate MPL product, at the end of 2008.

The coming Forum aims to share information and experiences; identify the challenges and solutions in implementing an effective MPL training program by outlining best practices.

International Key experts will address the implementation of MPL as well as encourage the exchange of opinions between Regulators, Airlines and FTOs.
