The award recognizes and celebrates the success of organizations that demonstrate sustained continuous improvement in four main categories: Leadership, People, Policy and Strategy and Partnership and Resources. The DQA is based on the Excellence Model of the European foundation for Quality Management (EFQM), which has been successfully applied in private and public sector organizations since 1992.
After the ceremony, Ahmed Bayoumi, General Manager, Mars GCC, said:
"This is a great honour for our company. Mars is dedicated to product excellence and to giving our customers across the Middle East outstanding quality in every respect."
"Winning this award is an independent endorsement of the high standards to which we are committed and consistently achieve. This accomplishment would not have been possible without the Mars team and family of associates."
This is the second major recognition of Mars' leadership in as many years. In 2006, Mars GCC, then Master Foods was awarded the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award for manufacturing due to the strict application of global best practices and the highest standards of quality in its local facility in the UAE.
"I extend our thanks and sincere appreciation to HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum for recognizing our efforts. I would also like to thank the Dubai authorities who have helped our company to become such a successful business in the region." Says Ahmed.
Mars GCC, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mars, Incorporated, is one of the world's leading food manufacturers. With more than $25 billion in annual sales globally, the combined food, snack and pet care segments are a symbol of excellence for quality brands.
The company owns some of the world's favourite brands including Galaxy, M&M'S, Snickers, Uncle Ben's, Pedigree and Whiskas pet food.
Mars GCC, like its global parent company, is unique because of the Five Principles that have guided it since its creation in 1911: Quality, Responsibility, Mutuality, Efficiency and Freedom. These principles have allowed the Middle East branch the freedom to operate in a small-business entrepreneurial atmosphere so that it can meet the needs of its distinct market and promote a mutual relationship with the community.
"Quality is our first Principle," states Ahmed. "Everything we do at Mars revolves around quality. This is because our associates, partners and customers deserve the absolute best and we will continue working hard to raise the bar."
