Government implements Employee Healthcare Scheme for all public workers

Dubai government has announced a comprehensive health insurance to be provided to Government employees and their dependents, with immediate effect.

Government employees, including all UAE Nationals as well as expatriate residents, will now have access to a range of healthcare services and facilities for the first time.

Commenting on the new scheme, His Excellency, Ahmed Bin Byat, Secretary General of the Executive Council said: 'Our staff are our most important asset and their continued good health remains one of our key priorities. Therefore, following the introduction of its new HR law, the Government has made a commitment to provide comprehensive healthcare cover for all its employees as well as their dependents.'

As per directions from The Executive Council, Human Resources Department of each government entity will be writing to each employee shortly with full details of the new scheme.

The Director General of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), His Excellency Mr Qadhi Al Murooshid, said: 'Health is at the forefront of the Government's agenda. The Government's commitment to its own staff is recognition that the health of the nation remains central to the continued and sustained growth of Dubai both now and into the future.'

He also added: 'The DHA continues to implement its strategic review of the healthcare sector. We are on schedule to make a full and thorough announcement later this year, including the role out of one universal scheme to ensure that everyone living and working in Dubai has access to high quality and affordable healthcare.'
