Research unit established at Gulf Medical College

Gulf Medical College has announced formally, setting up GMC Research Unit at the institution.

This was mentioned in a specially organized seminar on Current Trends in Research held on the 3rd of May 2008 at the college campus in Ajman.

The seminar was inaugurated by His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Majid Bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Ruler's Court Ajman in the presence of Mr. Thumbay Moideen, President GMCA, Prof. Gita Ashok Raj, Dean and an expert faculty from the renowned St. John's Research Institute, India. A team of scientists led by Prof. K. Srinivasan delivered talks at the seminar.

Prof. Gita Ashok Raj emphasized the need for such a unit and mentioned that all the clinical departments would initiate and take up research activities in collaboration with national and international institutions.

The GMC Research Unit serves as a means of focusing, coordinating, and directing efforts of scholars in basic and clinical sciences from several departments of the GMC Hospital and Gulf Medical College Ajman, she said.

Explaining further, she mentioned that the aim is to promote close, medium-term cooperation between several outstanding scientists from within the country and abroad in specific research projects.

The unit will soon have a dedicated facility and a dedicated team of experts led by the Dean of the Research Unit.

GMC Research Unit welcomes and invites scientists and doctors from other institutions to utilize the facilities and conduct joint research activities.

Prof. K. Srinivasan, Vice Dean of St. John's Research Institute spoke about Genesis and Objectives of their institute and presented a paper on Study of Lifestyle Related Disorders.

Prof. T. S. Sridhar Professor of Molecular Medicine spoke about Establishing Research Programs, and presented a paper on Genomic Cancer Research. Dr. John Kenneth presented a paper on Laboratory and Infectious Diseases.

Over 100 doctors and scientists attended the seminar which was organized by the Health Communications Division of GMCA.

Gulf Medical College has been collaborating with various international institutions over the last ten years to provide high quality Medical Education.

Now with the establishment of GMC Research Unit, the institution aims to promote high quality research activities in the region and to become a leading research institute in the region.
