This solution consists of three mission critical M8000 Unix servers, in addition to multiple mid-range UNIX and x86 blade servers. The system will manage NBAD's core banking software, which will allow the bank to rapidly identify market opportunities, respond to changing circumstances, launch new products and services, and efficiently manage its growing operations.

NBAD is the UAE's largest banking institution with more than 100 branches across the UAE and abroad. Fujitsu Siemens Computers and its partner Fujitsu Services secured the NBAD implementation based on the companies' regional expertise and support capability for its proposed hardware as well as its integration capabilities with Solaris, Oracle and Symantec Veritas applications.

"NBAD is operating in a challenging and rapidly growing global financial environment in which technology plays a critical role in addressing the bank's core challenges, while facilitating growth and ensuring compliance with an increased amount of local and international regulation," said Srood Sherif, NBAD's Chief Information Officer (CIO). "This project is aimed at enabling NBAD to increase its core banking load and delivering a consistently robust level of service across all of NBAD's specific computing requirements.

"NBAD expects high performance with mission critical uptime and support as part of the benefits that Fujitsu Siemens Computers delivers to us. We have had an excellent relationship during the implementation, helped very much by the fact that we had single point of contact for a wide range of issues. In addition, the breadth of products and projects undertaken by Fujitsu Siemens Computers has been very credible,"

Sherif added.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers upgraded NBAD's current core banking platform to deliver a state-of-the-art Solaris platform and Intel infrastructure for several other key projects. Fujitsu Services also has the capability to integrate UNIX, Oracle and Symantec solutions and to support on-site mission critical hardware for NBAD.

"NBAD has selected Fujitsu Siemens Computers to manage its most challenging IT tasks, creating a compelling financial services story for us in the region. It is a massive implementation due to an upgrade of NBAD's core banking system, as well as infrastructure for several other key projects," said Stephane Rejasse, Managing Director, Fujitsu Siemens Computers Middle East.

"We carefully crafted the specific solution to suit NBAD's business requirements and ensured successful implementation of a project of this scale, along with our partner Fujitsu Services. While all banks in the Gulf face increasing competition as well as rapidly changing market conditions, we are certain our core banking platform will arm NBAD with a competitive edge."

Fujitsu Siemens Computers' Core Banking Solution will function as an integrated banking platform to manage NBAD's retail, corporate and private banking. It will address the critical needs for NBAD's scalable, flexible and customer -centric solution, and support NBAD's front and back office functions, such as managing customer accounts, transfers, teller transactions and customer support services.

Reaffirming its trust in Fujitsu Siemens Computers as a complete infrastructure provider, NBAD have also recently chosen the M8000 SPARC Enterpriser server for its Disaster Recovery Site.
