Announcing the decision, Mohana Prabhakar, CEO, Apex Press and Publishing, said, "The new schedule promotes a better balance between work and leisure, which is what our group has always believed in. The two-day weekend will ensure that our team begins every week re-energised."

Thursday was a half-day earlier.

Mohana said the decision was arrived at after discussions with various departments in the group.

Saleh Zakwani, chairman, Apex Press and Publishing, said he did not agree with the argument that a two-day weekend would affect productivity or performance. "Apex has been a trend-setter in the industry in more ways than one. We have always taken the lead in bringing positive developments to the media scene - from setting quality standards to becoming the first publishing house in Oman to get its publication audited by an independent agency. This is yet another initiative from us".

Apex Press and Publishing is Oman's premier publishing house, involved in a host of publishing-related activities.

It is known for its high-quality titles produced by a team of professional journalists and designers.

The group's regular publications include TheWeek, Al Isbou'a, BusinessToday, OmanToday, Usrat AlYoum, BusinessDirectory and Tribute.
