Gulf Medical College to hold international nursing conference

The provision of health care and health care services globally is going through a period of profound change.

Change is needed if nurses are to provide a health service that is safe and effective as well as responding to the dynamic challenges that keep the trust and support of the public, says Mr. Ian Peate, Associate Head of School, University of Hertfordshire UK, who will deliver a keynote talk on Modernizing Nursing careers at the International Conference on Nursing and Global Health, to be organized by the Gulf Medical College Ajman.

In a press release issued by the Health Communications Division at Gulf Medical College, mentioned that the conference is being held on the 23rd of May 2008 and four workshops will be held on the 24th of May at Gulf Medical College, to celebrate International Nurses Day.

The conference is accredited by the Ministry of health UAE for 9.5 CNE Hrs.

International faculties from United Kingdom and Malaysia apart from faculty from UAE will deliver talks at the conference.

Over 500 nurses from all over UAE and GCC countries are expected to participate in the conference.

Mrs. Zaharah Osman from KPG Healthcare Malaysia will deliver a special talk on 'Nursing Shortage: Global Phenomenon and a Local Concern'.

Other topics will be Current Issues in Nursing Management, Accountability and Clinical decision Making -An Overview, Barriers to Evidence Based Nursing, Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace, Transcultural Nursing, Staff Recruitment and Retention, Reporting of events / occurrences: The Reality in Nursing,
and Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing.

UAE Faculty include Mrs. Fatima Al Rifai - Federal Director of Nursing, Ministry of Health - UAE, Ms. Diane Presley - Regional Director of Nursing, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Abu Dhabi, Ms. Linda Haskins - Director of Nursing, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Abu Dhabi, Ms. Nancy Hashim - Director of Nursing, American Hospital Dubai, Ms. Sandra Pieters - Performance Improvement Director - American Hospital Dubai and Dr. Vijaya Kumaradas - Dean College of Nursing - RAKMHSU.

Four workshops on Emergency Medical Care, Maternal Child Nursing, Perinatal Care, Geriatric Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing will be held on the 24th of May 2008.

The workshops will be conducted by International Faculty and leading experts from various MoH Districts and leading hospitals in UAE.
