GEMS American Academy-Abu Dhabi receives delegation from Zanzibar

The delegation’s visit was the first step in the American Academy becoming a “sister” to a new school on the island.

Members of the delegation even took time out to answer questions from the Academy’s students who were interested in life in Zanzibar. The meeting was part of a tripartite agreement between GEMS American Academy- Abu Dhabi, Government of Zanzibar and IFA Hotels & Resorts who donated the money to build the school in a village adjacent to its resort property the Fairmont Zanzibar, as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Under the sister school arrangement and in line with the GEMS core values of world citizenship, universal values, leadership qualities and forward thinking, the American Academy will help the village school through fundraising for furniture, supplies and eventually teacher exchanges.

“Our students will also benefit from this arrangement as it will broaden their perspective beyond themselves, their families and the city they live in,” said Jason McBride, Principal, GEMS American Academy – Abu Dhabi.
