The conference, an annual event organized by the Diploma Year 1 students, is the vehicle for students' project-based learning carried out at DWC.
This year, the conference focuses on the benefits of gaining summer and part-time employment experiences during studies in order to help students manage their career decisions and give them an advantage in the competitive job market.
World of Work is coordinated by Diploma Year One students for the fifth year and involves more than 240 students who participate in various organizing tasks.
It is an all day student run conference that has been 'a valuable forum for the students to learn about the realities of the World of Work and subsequently focus their college efforts towards their ultimate career goals,' noted Nancy Maloney, a Business Faculty member at DWC.
More than 25 DWC Diploma graduates attended the conference and spoke to groups of students about the opportunities and realities of the workplace.
Graduates came from a large variety of public and private companies including General Motors, Dusit Dubai, Mashreq Bank, Emirates Airlines, National Bank of Dubai, HSBC Bank, Dubai Immigration, Al Futtaim, EPPCO, Al Naboodah, Dubai Customs, TECOM, Dubai Islamic Bank, Emirates Bank, and Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation.
World of Work is also a valuable opportunity for employers interested in recruiting Emirati employees.
This year's conference hosted Shereen Aldisi from Mashreq Bank who discussed training and development issues and concerns for UAE nationals.
Wajdi Abed Al Salam, Director of the Center for Training and Consultancy, talked to the students about how to market themselves in today's competitive world.
Students got the chance to also listen to Salem Suliman and Maha Al Qattan from Nakheel who talked about workplace etiquette. Hend Al Dhaheri from Aramex advised students on best customer services practices.
