The ICDL is an International Computer Driving Licence designed to use a computer with the same ease as driving a car.

The certificates were handed over in a ceremony by Major General Mohamed Ahmed Al Marri, Director of DNRD and attended by Dr. Abdullah Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and the Director General of Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and Tarek Bin Khadem Chairman of the Special Needs Cultural Club.

As per Dr. Al Karam: 'We at the Knowledge and Human Development Authority believe in the empowerment of the disabled employees. Regardless of their physical disability, they possess great potentials and capabilities that help them blend easily in the working environment and make them professional calibres.'

Major General Al Marri underlined the importance of supporting employees with special needs and continuously driving their motivation by offering additional courses that will enhance their skills and expand their knowledge. It is part of DNRD's strategy to focus on every employee and offer him or her compatible tools that will impact the overall performance in a positive way.

Adnan Al Awadhi, Data Entry Specialist, at Dubai Police for 5 years commented: 'The knowledge gained during the training will enable me to improve my performance and render quick results in my data entry field.'

DNRD and KHDA have partnered together in an effort to create a knowledgeable society that will contribute positively to the social and economic development of the UAE.

Khalifa Ali Arab, DNRD disabled employee working at the Administration and Finance Department, handling electronic archiving for 5 years, said: 'I truly benefited from the ICDL training and I am going to apply all concepts learnt in my job which will facilitate the archiving and sorting procedure of information.'

At the end of the DNRD presented a memento to Dr. Karam and Bin Khadem as an acknowledgment for their genuine support.

Being a strong supporter of the special needs rights and a genuine believer that disabled people should not be isolated from society, DNRD is keen to employ challenged people and not only that, they have also provided its headquarters and branches across Dubai with special parking lots, toilets and elevators and other facilities for its employees and visitors of special needs.

DNRD has been fully committed and supportive of the UAE Special Needs Act (number 29/2006) mandated by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, which stipulates that people of special needs must be provided with equal rights at work. They should enjoy full rights and privileges and given same working hours, salary packages, promotion and annual leaves as their counterparts.
