Dedicated sports medicine clinic kicks off at the American Hospital Dubai

The new Sports Medicine Clinic's multidisciplinary team has the extensive experience and expertise needed to tackle problems with all the major joints, such as shoulder, hip, ankle, knee, as well as trauma and other sports related injuries.

The 'captain' of the clinic's team is renowned German Board Certified Orthopedic surgeon, Dr Harold Vanderschmidt, and the clinic offers advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques supported by a squad of leading radiologists and physiotherapists, to keep patients playing.

The Sports Medicine Clinic has generated a lot of interest from sportsmen and sportswomen, since opening in April 2008, explains Dr Vanderschmidt: 'We are seeing a lot of young expatriates with sports injuries and we already have a waiting list of patients,' he comments.

'We are seeing injuries of all the major joints, even those typically associated with skiing; I practiced in a ski region in Germany for many years and am very familiar with his type of injury.

'My speciality is arthroscopy which is a surgical procedure orthopedic surgeons use to visualize, diagnose, and treat problems inside a joint. The clinic has the most advanced arthroscopy equipment and, just as importantly, we have the team to manage the rehabilitation process for patients, which helps them to keep playing,' he concludes.
