The Middle East is fast establishing itself as the region that pioneers building tall. Current projects under way or planned include the Burj Dubai, currently holding the record as the world's tallest building, Nakheel's Tall Tower project, also in Dubai, the planned Mubarek al-Kabir project in Kuwait, and the Mile-High Tower in Jeddah.
Eddie O'Sullivan, Chairman, MEED Events comments:
'The Middle East is undoubtedly the newly crowned 'king' of the tall tower. We once looked to the US for inspiration but with the Burj Dubai already standing at twice the height of the Empire State building, the home of the tall tower has moved via Asia to the Middle East, with many more exciting projects to come.'
'The buildings planned and under construction in the region mean that many of the world's experts in this field, including developers, architects and contractors, are on our doorstep. MEED's Building Tall 2008 conference is an opportunity to address the issues relevant to the tall building industry as a whole and to ask burning questions like 'how high can we go? and 'as we go higher, how can we get greener'?''
Key speakers at Building Tall 2008 will include:
• Ahmad Abdulrazaq, EVP High-rise & Structural Engineering, Samsung
• Steven Humphreys, Director, David Langdon
• Michael Willford, Director, Arup
• Peter Sharett, Divisional Managing Director, WSP Energy
• Fathi Tarada, Director Fire Safety Engineering, Halcrow
The event will take place between 10th and 11th June 2008 at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Dubai, UAE. Topics for keynote speeches and panel sessions will include the demand for building tall, design challenges, ensuring buildability, habitation and human environment, structural challenges, wind, sustainable building and safety.
