The Marine Transport Awareness & Promotional Team at Marine Agency of Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) hosted two teams from the Rehabilitation Centre of People with Special Needs in both Dubai and Al Ain.
Ahmed Mohammed Al Hammadi, Director of Operation & Performance Department at RTA Marine Agency, said that the Agency is always seeking to activate the role of special needs people and integrate them in the community. It also seeks to involve and socialise them with all members of the community and entertain them through various means as manifested in this outstanding trip.
Al Hammadi commented on the trip and said: "This excursion aimed to highlight the importance of delivering water transport and other marine services to all members of the community. It seeks to familiarise them with role of Marine transport in easing traffic congestion and providing alternative and accessible transport means, which will ensure timely and smooth arrival to all destinations.
"Through its various units, including Marine Transport Awareness & Promotional Team, Marine Agency is seeking to promote the awareness of the Water Bus among all community segments in Dubai. This campaign covers school students, service providing departments of Dubai Government, (particularly those located at Bani Yas Road) and sports clubs and societies.
"These repeated visits, particularly those involving students, represent a turning point for students who are eager to gain knowledge and experience from experts and leaders. They also provide an opportunity to exchange concepts and share knowledge between both parties. They provide students with a good exposure to practical life.
"The visit included four presentations and events such as a trip via the Water Bus on the Tourist Line in Dubai Creek, a complimentary visit to the Heritage Museum of the Agency located at the Floating Office at Al Seef Station and presentations conducted by employees of the Agency" said Al Hammadi.
Water Transport Awareness & Promotional Team made extensive explanation of the Water Bus service including routes, working hours and fares. Students demonstrated pulling out life-jackets from under the seat in a very short time. They also watched a 3-minutes Water Bus movie and visited Al Seef Station Museum; where they saw a number of heritage images as well as prototypes of antique boats.
At the end of the trip, the Team made some quizzes related to RTA, Marine Agency, the Water Bus and marine heritage of the city. Prizes were given to winners and gift items were also provided to the visiting students.
