- PRESS RELEASE
A mesmerizing musical evening will be held when the popular European Chamber Opera (ECHO) performs its Grand Opera Gala at the Al Qasba, Sharjah, on May 29.
The event promises to be a major crowd-puller and is supported by Coral Beach Resort, Sharjah and Bridgestone (official partner).
The exclusive media partners are The National newspaper and City 7 TV (Exclusive Local English Language TV station).
This is the second time in less than a year that the Grand Opera Gala is returning to Al Qasba on popular demand.
Doors will open at 7 p.m. at the Masrah Al Qasba Theatre with a beautiful mocktail reception. The European Chamber Opera (ECHO) is a leading European opera production company with a fan-following worldwide.
Marwan J. Al Sarkal, CEO, Al Qasba Development Authority said: "Owing to the fantastic response we got last time, opera has become one of the most popular annual events in our calendar. The upcoming performance of the ECHO is expected to break all previous records and create a magical evening for all opera lovers."
The biggest attraction of the Grand Opera Gala will be Mozart's greatest opera "Cosi Fan Tutte" which was written and composed on the request of Emperor Joseph II. Some of the other highlights of the evening will feature popular compositions from the world's most famous operas like "La Traviata", "Don Pasquale", "The Pearlfishers", "Tosca", "Carmen", "Madame Butterfly", "Don Carlo", "Nozze di Figaro" among others.
Stefan Paul Sanchez, Artistic Director ECHO said "We promise a memorable evening of classic music, one that will be etched on the minds of all music buffs for long. "Al Qasba is a unique venue and we are looking forward to returning there. We have always been received very enthusiastically in Sharjah. It is wonderful to see such an interest in opera and the other arts in the city. The popularity of this event once again vindicates Sharjah's position as the cultural Capital of the Middle East."
Having produced several musical galas in England and Spain, Stefan founded the European Chamber Opera in 1991 with a performance of "II Trovatore".
The concert at Al Qasba will bring together some of the finest artists who will perform excerpts from Tosca, Madame Butterfly, La Traviata, Pearlfishers and Marriage of Figaro.
Most of the melodies are well-known and the musical evening is sure to enthrall all. Yet another unique feature of the Grand Opera Gala will be the presence of a compere who will weave the opera together by interpreting the themes of the melodies to the audience.
