Development & Infrastructure Security conference opens in Dubai

  • United Arab Emirates: Monday, May 19 - 2008 at 16:44
  • PRESS RELEASE

The Director of Dubai Police Academy opened proceedings at IQPC's Development & Infrastructure Security conference today, touching on the need for increased security in the wake of immense economic and social development in the region.

Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Bin Fahad addressed delegates and speakers, including leading members of the national and international security fraternities, who are presenting views on crime and terrorism prevention, international and local security case studies and success stories over the 2-day conference.

"Regional development means that the region is higher up on the world's stage in terms of investment and tourism and there is therefore a larger need for security infrastructure," says Kelly Grant, IQPC Development & Infrastructure Security, Conference Director.

"The hospitality industry, and tourism in particular, is a sensitive element within a growing economy - a safe, secure, tourist-attracting region reinforces faith and stimulates increased investment from local and international investors."

"The conference creates a very apt forum for discussion and sharing of information between security professionals," Grant adds.

A case study within the 'hospitality focus' session on the 2nd day will be presented by Bill Fairweather, Chairman of the Institute of Hotel Security Management. The presentation looks into flaws that allow criminals to compromise poor systems, provides recommendations to prevent unnecessary expenditure in the long term as well as ways hotels can protect against claims and minimize brand damage.

First day topics included presentation of the Dubai vision for optimum tourist security by Lt. Colonel Mohammed Rashid Al Muhairi, Director of Tourist Security Department, Dubai Police.

Lt. Colonel Al Muhairi also discussed the importance and value of optimum customer service in tourist security and how the Dubai Police ensures a 'feeling' of safety and trust with minimal impact on both operations and appearance.

"Due to incredible response we will be holding a larger edition of Development & Infrastructure Security conference from 14-17 December this year in Doha, with endorsement from Dubai Police," concluded Kelly.
Regional development means security measures need to be stepped up.
