RTA adopts Green Building Standards at marine stations, more energy saving

The Marine Agency at Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) announced that Green Building Standards will be adopted at marine transport station, in keeping with the Government drive, and in a bid to reassert the pioneer role of the RTA in conserving the environment and rationalizing power consumption.
According to the international classifications, Green Buildings are classified into four categories; namely the Platinum Category, the Golden Category, the Silver Category, and Identification Certificate, he said.
He added the implementation of Green Building techniques at marine transport stations is still at the initial stage; which covers four stations; City Center Station, Union Square Station, Al Ghubaiba Station, and Gold Souk Station.
Implementation of Green Building standards will rate the RTA among the first entities committed to Green Community law; a matter which will boost the profile of the RTA in conserving the environment, and at the same time save huge amounts of water & power in the long run.
The Marine Projects Dep't at RTA Marine Agency reviewed all offers received from leading global companies specialized in this field as part of the process of selecting and endorsing designs conforming to Green Building patterns.
The Dep't will also oversee implementation of this project, process all documentation, and ensure all requirements are in place for external, audit with a view to obtain the required certification.
"UAE Green Building Council is currently engaged in developing guidelines and standards related to Green Buildings; which are expected to be finalized by the end of this year. These guidelines aim at increasing the efficiency of using energy & water, enhance sustained development of projects, and ensure selection of environment-friendly building materials.
"The mechanism adopted by the RTA to implement the standards of Green Buildings at marine transport stations is triggered by Marine Projects Dep't in coordination with Projects & Logistical Support Dep't, and Contracts & Procurement Dep't.
The overall objective is to select the best deals on offer from specialized companies and accordingly approve the Consultant. "Marine Agency will be at the forefront of agencies committed to Green Buildings system. This demonstrates the keen attention of marine officials to adopt optimum standards capable of increasing productivity through utilizing environment-friendly materials" he concluded.
