The first recipient, Ahmed Sidiq, a student of Manar Iman Charity School, was awarded a scholarship to undertake the Bachelor of Computer Science at UOWD by Mr. David Rome, President of UOWD, during the university's 15th anniversary celebrations held at Knowledge Village on May 24, amidst an exciting program of entertainment and fun activities attended by over 1,000 people.

"These scholarships represent our commitment to the UAE community," remarked Mr. Rome. "Under this program, up to five academically meritorious but economically disadvantaged students will get a rare opportunity of fulfilling their dream of pursuing university education. We could not think of a better way of marking our milestone of completing 15th years in the UAE."

The scholarships are as a result of collaboration between UOWD's Connexions Club and Manar Iman Charity School.

The recipients have been identified and will receive their scholarships after they satisfy UOWD's academic and language requirements for admission.

The dazzling 15th anniversary celebrations took place at multiple sites between Blocks 5 & 15 of Knowledge Village and the UOWD auditorium, and were attended by students, families and friends and UOWD faculty and staff.

The celebrations included performances by Dubai Drums, music by DJ Sash, performances by UOWD students, a fashion show featuring students from several countries dressed in their national costumes and a dance show choreographed by Bosco and Caesar.

The fun activities included face painting, henna painting, Guess the Candy, Tail the Camel, Kick the Ball, Tug of War, Sumo Wrestling, Balloon Bending, Hair Braiding and Beading, a mime artist, stilt walker, food stalls and coffee shops.

There were also charity booths, blood pressure checkups and stalls of sponsors, including Coffee Planet, 3M, Kraft Foods, Phillips, Renaissance, Avon, Golden Lion Tea, Tang, Radio Spice and Shoof TV.
