  • PRESS RELEASE

Dubai eGovernment, a pioneering initiative in the region to provide online services, has recently honoured graduates of the third batch of the Ta'aheel Project, a unique IT literacy program for inmates, at the Dubai Central Prison.

The move, part of the Prison's innovative rehabilitation process, reflects Dubai eGovernment's sustained Corporate Social Responsibility commitment.

Trainees are taught the basics of the Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office Applications, with IT certificates given at the end of the training sessions.

Dubai eGovernment fully supports the initiative to guarantee a better future for prisoners after they complete their sentences.

"IT literacy is a major requirement for most businesses in Dubai; the IT certificates provided at the end of the Ta'aheel program will give prisoners who have duly served their time the chance to be reintegrated as productive members of society. Dubai eGovernment will continue to leverage its position as a government authority to support these and other noble causes that promise a fresh start for reformed prisoners and other disadvantaged members of society," said Salem Al-Shair, e-Services Director, Dubai eGovernment.

"Prisoners are still members of our society and should thus not be allowed to remain ignorant and unproductive. We commend Ta'aheel for this initiative, which will continue to inspire reformists to achieve their potential as they seek better lives outside of prison. We also thank Dubai eGovernment for representing the government in bringing hope to our prisoners. Our facility shall extend whatever assistance necessary to ensure the continued success of this project," concluded Major General Khamis Saeed Al Suwaidi, Director, General Department of Correctional Institutions.

Dubai eGovernment continues to effectively promote the growth of online services offered to citizens, residents, businesses and visitors in Dubai.

The organization has spurred the growth of more than 2,000 online services across various government departments in Dubai.
