BMW 1 Series Coupe and Convertible arrive in the capital

Both new variants feature eye-catching designs, 50:50 weight distribution and rear-wheel drive, a combination which makes the BMW 1 Series Coupe and Convertible unique in their class, in addition to distinctly sporty design and driving characteristics.

The BMW 1 Series uses BMW EfficientDynamics technology, such as brake energy regeneration, Valvetronic valvetrain management and aluminum/magnesium construction.

These technologies allow for optimum performance, higher fuel economy and considerably lower emissions.

Both the Convertible and Coupe models are available with a 3.0-litre inline-six variant in the BMW 125i, delivering 218bhp, and a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine with twin-turbo technology in the BMW 135i, delivering a total of 306bhp.

The car accelerates from 0-100 km/h in only 5.3 seconds, yet returning an extra-urban fuel consumption of 7.3 litres per 100km.

"Abu Dhabi Motors will be offering an extended range for the BMW 1 Series, allowing customers to select their own unique vehicle whether a BMW 120i or a powerful 135i, a wide selection of luxury options are available," said Arno Husselmann, General Manager of Abu Dhabi Motors."

The new BMW 1 Series Coupe combines unique, dynamic and unmistakable design elements with a powerful and muscular body.

The short overhangs, long wheelbase and large frameless doors sit on a body with a striking shoulder line for a modern interpretation of BMW's characteristic look.

On the BMW 1 Series Convertible, the electronic soft top opens and closes in just 22 seconds, even while the car is moving at speeds of up to 40 km/h.

When closed, the reinforced, integrated rear window helps block out noise.

"This year will be no different, having announced an Dhs220m showroom expansion in Umm Al Nar, in addition to recording a 62.1% increase in Q1 sales for 2008 over the same period in 2007. The introduction of the new BMW 1 Series variants will appeal to a much wider segment of BMW enthusiasts."
