Minister praises MECOM as unique platform for 'seeing and learning'

H.E.Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, yesterday paid a surprise visit on the final day of the Middle East Communications Exhibition and Conference (MECOM) and praised the event as a good platform for presenting the latest technologies.

MECOM, held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre with high level exhibitors, is the region's premier event for the telecommunications industry. The Minister, speaking after touring the exhibition, said:

"MECOM represents a good platform for presenting the latest technology in communications and also an opportunity for people to see what is on offer from the industry."


He added that the event provided a unique opportunity to meet experts and leaders of the industry and to "see and learn" about how telecommunications technology can support education and promote learning.

MECOM 2008 was held under the patronage of HH General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

MECOM was also officially supported by the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and Dubai Internet City. ICT Industry Partner was Dubai Internet City. Platinum sponsors were etisalat, the UAE Information and Communication Technology Fund and du. Gold sponsors were Ericsson, Blackberry, EMS and the Abu Dhabi Media Company.

MECOM will next take place from 4-6 May 2009.
