House price hike leads to home improvement boom
- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, May 29 - 2008 at 10:38
- PRESS RELEASE
In the last two months alone, house prices have gone up 10%-15% across the region, meaning that many people are investing in Do-It-Yourself (D.I.Y.) home improvement.
"We are seeing many more people enjoy the pride that comes from D.I.Y. People realise that painting is a cheap and effective way of bringing a home back to life," said Sunil Gudur, at Al Gurg Leigh's Paints (AGLP).
The company, which supplies Dulux, Leigh's, and Oasis brand paint, is expanding its range into 50 new retail outlets in the next 12 months across the UAE to cope with the increased demand.
"People are very proud of their homes, and they want the very best paints that are on the market. Many people coming to us are new to D.I.Y. so are reassured by big name brands like Dulux, with its excellent range of water based coatings, as well as the quality of advice on the latest colours," added Mr. Gudur.
The paint market is currently worth nearly Dhs750m across the Middle East each year, and as more people look to improve their properties that figure is expected to climb dramatically.
