Mikimoto presents new collection in BaselFair 08

Mikimoto's Infinity and Sandstorm (from its Pearls in Motion collection) also shared the spotlight. Displaying its tremendous design ability, Mikimoto's exceptional jewels are sure to wow both the young and the young at heart in an array of necklaces, pendants, earrings and rings blending white, yellow and rose gold, diamonds with its remarkable Akoya and South Sea pearls.

This year is particularly special for the design house as it marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of its founder Kokichi Mikimoto. The Mikimoto Milano collection was first introduced in 2006 and saw the collaboration between Mikimoto's legendary skills and Italy's design excellence.

"Since 1893 Mikimoto is a design house synonymous with the highest quality cultured pearls with each of its creations being individually made and finished by hand. Its founder once said that he wished to adorn every women in the world in pearls. Though an impossible dream at that time, Mikimoto is today one of the highly regarded and coveted names in jewellery," Tawhid Abdullah, managing director of Damas said.

Dragonfly

In its Libellula or Dragonfly collection, the delicate creature's form is recreated in precious essence. For instance, the collection's very fetching ring displays a tiny dragonfly's silhouette uniquely highlighted in pure, sparkling diamonds. The dragonfly appears to lovingly hug the bounty of the sea, in a piece that at once pays tribute both to the mystery of the earth's inhabitant and the gem from the sea's depths in striking black and white contrasts combining white gold, the brilliance of diamonds and a black South Sea pearl.

Lybra

The Lybra collection offers a vision of lightness that enthralls in contemporary South sea pearl pieces such as earrings, pendants and rings sporting white or cognac diamonds in white, yellow or rose gold settings.

Infinity

The Infinity line presented by Mikimoto in Basel '08 collection pays ode to the symbol of infinity, and allowing the smooth lines to flow over the Akoya and South Sea pearls in smooth contours, offering charming earrings, necklaces and rings combining and just a positioning the classic with the modern.

Sandstorm

Sandstorm is a line from Mikimoto's highly popular Pearls in Motion collection that draws inspiration from the changing landscape of the desert. The collection features golden or grey South Sea pearls complemented by satin-finished gold. The warm golden tones represent the desert at day while the silver speaks of the chill cold at night.
